Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration

As stated in the Arkansas Teaching Standards (2012):
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
As applied in my Internship:
During college, I often sought leadership and collaborative roles. I was the founder of an octet vocal ensemble for music education majors that gave a concert last July and a wedding gig this January. I led everything from the rehearsals, to finding the gigs and promotion of our concert and even our concert program. This octet was a great resource to learn how to program concerts, run rehearsals, promote choral events to the community, and collaborate with other students during performance due to not having a conductor. As stated in the previous standard I was also the president of the student chapter of ACDA at the University of Arkansas and had to plan masterclass events, meetings, and trips to see professional ensembles. Another collaborative role I had was the choral representative of NAfME (National Association for Music Educators) where I collaborated with other board members to bring together both instrumentalist students and vocal students. All of these roles have helped groom me to become a teacher who encourages leadership and collaboration in the classroom and try to lead my students through strong leadership.
